You ate too much last night, woke up puffy and drousy so you double up on your morning coffee and head out the door. A few hours later all you want is carbs. Lots of them. You cave, eat too much again and the cycle begins.
Read on to see exactly how to break it in ONE day… every single time.
Ok so you ate too many biscuits, drank too many cocktails and devoured too many cookies. It’s alright. It happens to the best of us. All you need now is a cure.
The old saying “a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips” is sort of true here except it’s actually just one day… which is a lot less dreadful than a lifetime, huh?! The good news is one food/booze free-for-all isn’t going to derail your health train but only if you don’t let it. This is by no means permission to gorge on the regular, but eating a lot one day can actually be a GOOD thing. Here’s what we mean: watching what you eat and tracking calories is the best way to keep your weight reigned in, but over time it can cause your metabolism to slow since you’re always eating less than your body needs. So basically the occasional high-calorie day can rev up your metabolism and keep it running on flames not fumes.
A great way to look at a day of overindulging or “cheating” is to consider it your metabolism-boosting day then go right back to your usual healthy ways first thing the next morning.
Sounds simple right? There’s just one big problem: you’re going to be sluggish, cranky and crave-y the day after a binge so you’ll need to be tough and stick to your food guns the entire day to snap back without a setback.
Here’s how it’s done:
1. Eat as much lean protein as you want at every meal and/or snack
2. Eat tons and tons of green veggies, salads and soups
3. Drink a gallon of water
4. Add some sea salt to all those veggies
5. Load up on fat; avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, olives
That’s it. It’s basically one day of our 7-Day Paleo Cleanse (the one you got when you subscribed to the mag!). Whatever you do, do NOT cave and order pizza delivery or pick at that plate of extra cookies. Give them to a shelter or church. You’ll get through it. Have some hot tea or broth, take a bubble bath and go to bed early; you’ll feel better tomorrow we promise.
And if you feel like your food sins are absolutely unforgiveable and you need a complete reset you can follow the 7-Day cleanse to wipe the slate clean. We do suggest, however, that you NOT attempt it on a particularly party-heavy week since we want you to enjoy your life and not feel like shit for failing at your diet over a cocktail or a cookie. Deal? Deal.
